Festival of Trees raises money for new Emergency Department
Mary Bridge Children's Hospital will get new trauma equipment
The new Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, opening this spring, and other Mary Bridge services will get new equipment funded by donations received during the 23rd annual Mary Bridge Festival of Trees.
The four-day event raised $1.43 million to buy new equipment such as infusion pumps and automatic defibrillators for the expanded Mary Bridge Emergency Department and the Pediatric Trauma Room. The donations also will be used to help run Tree House: A Place for Families. Tree House opened this year to provide families at Mary Bridge a place to stay while their children are in the hospital.
“On behalf of thousands of children and families throughout Southwest Washington, thank you for opening your heart to help raise critical funds for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center. The generosity of our community is truly remarkable,” said Alicia Chapman, MultiCare Health System director of special events and corporate relations. “The Festival has raised more than $17.7 million for Mary Bridge services since 1987, which helps kids get the services they need.”
Volunteers from all over the Puget Sound region designed 69 holiday trees, each uniquely decorated with different themes.
One example: A tree sponsored by Associated Petroleum Products Inc. called “Cruise Roche Harbor on Sea-Doos” sold for $27,000 and included two new Sea-Doos with trailer and life jackets. The package also included a three-night stay in Roche Harbor in a luxurious Village Home, a 42-inch flat screen TV and DVD player.
Another extravagant tree included a trip for four to the Resort at Paws Up, in Montana, where luxury camping is taken seriously. More than 12,000 people attended one of the many events that made up the Mary Bridge Festival of Trees.
The Festival debuted Ladies Night Out this year with wine tasting, appetizers and shopping. More than 650 women came out to support Mary Bridge services.
Puyallup Tribe of Indians-Emerald Queen Hotel and Casinos, Associated Petroleum Products, Propel Insurance and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Group are the major sponsors for this year’s Festival of Trees.
