Flu shots available at MultiCare clinics
MultiCare Health System now is offering flu vaccines to patients at clinics in King and Pierce counties. Patients who would like a vaccine should make an appointment with their doctor.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone as the first and most important step in protecting against this serious disease. While there are many different flu viruses, the flu vaccine is designed to protect against the three main flu strains that research indicates will cause the most illness during the flu season.
The flu vaccine for the 2010-2011 season will protect against three different flu viruses in one dose: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season. Getting the flu vaccine soon after it becomes available each year is always a good idea, and the protection you get from vaccination will last throughout the flu season.
MultiCare’s hospitals and clinics have not seen a surge of flu patients this year. But we ask that people who exhibit flu-like or respiratory symptoms avoid visiting patients at any of our four Pierce County hospitals. In some areas of the hospitals including the birthing centers and the pediatric units, health care providers will screen visitors for respiratory symptoms to ensure a healthy environment for patients.
