(TACOMA)--MultiCare Health System recently received national recognition from the American Heart Association as a Gold Level Start! Fit-Friendly Company.

MultiCare is also one of only 12 companies recognized nationally with the Community Fitness Innovation Award, in addition to achieving the Gold Level recognition.

Start! Fit-Friendly Company recognition program is a national movement from the American Heart Association that calls on all Americans and their employers to create a culture of physical activity and health to live longer, heart-healthier lives through walking. Companies earn recognition by implementing physical activity practices.

MultiCare Center For Healthy Living’s successful Healthy@Work program at MultiCare’s Tacoma hospitals and clinics in Pierce and South King counties provided nutrition, exercise and weight loss challenges to employees and the chance to win prizes for participating. Since the program began, more than 800 employees have participated.

“It is wonderful to be recognized for our employee fitness efforts,” said Lori Tanner, Director of the MultiCare Center For Healthy Living. “Our team has worked hard to get employees invested in their own health and many of them have taken on this challenge.”

MultiCare will receive a plaque for each of these recognitions at the Heart Walk on Saturday, October 4 in downtown Tacoma.
