  • MultiCare website among best health care sites

MultiCare Health System’s website was honored among the best health care Internet sites in the nation at the 2010 eHealthcare Leadership Awards.

MultiCare’s website, www.multicare.org, received an award of Distinction for “Best Overall Internet Site” in the Healthcare System division. Sites receiving the awards were selected from nearly 1,300 entries.

Award recipients were recognized in November in Las Vegas during the 14th Annual Healthcare Internet Conference, a national gathering that focuses on the ways leading-edge health care organizations use the Internet and technology to achieve their objectives.

Winning websites met criteria such as pleasing design, ease of navigation, extensive interactive content that has a business purpose, e-Business that delivers a return on investment, and the right information for the right audience.

For Best Overall Internet Site, judges also considered delivery of strong health content, interactivity, medical care support and integration with the organization's operations.

Last year, MultiCare won the Silver Award for “Best Employee Recruitment Site for a Healthcare System” at the eHealthcare Leadership Awards. The website was designed by MultiCare and built by SiteCrafting of Tacoma.

The 2010 eHealthcare Leadership Awards highlight the Internet's role in achieving an organization's business objectives and recognize the hard work that has gone into creating outstanding health websites. Websites were rated based on a standard of Internet excellence and how they compare with others in their group classification.

“The extensive debate on health care reform, combined with the need for increased efficiency in a challenging economy, has spurred digital media innovation,” says Mark Gothberg, eHealthcare Leadership Awards chairman. “A substantial number of organizations have made major improvements in their websites to better serve current and future customers. Organizations are also embracing social networking, including blogs, Facebook, and Twitter, to reach consumers in new ways and generate concrete business.”

Technology plays an important role at MultiCare. It keeps patients, hospitals, clinics and 8,300 medical professionals connected. Over the past 10 years, MultiCare has the led the region in online health care technology investments, with:

    • MultiCare Connect, the South Sound’s first inpatient-outpatient electronic health record that connects physicians with your every visit, procedure, medication reaction and test result.
    • MyChart securely connects patients with doctor’s offices, offering features like appointments scheduling and prescriptions refilling. Thousands of patients have signed up for this free service to help manage their health care.

Also this year, MultiCare Health System was named one of the nation’s Most Wired health systems according to Health IT magazine. MultiCare is one of only two health systems in Western Washington to earn this distinction. In 2009, MultiCare Health System was named one of the nation’s 100 Most Wired health systems and the 25 Most Wireless health systems, according to Hospital & Health Network magazine. MultiCare is one of the few health systems in the nation to have electronic health records and one of only two health systems in Western Washington to earn this distinction.
