The nomination phase for Seattle magazine's 14th annual "Top Docs" ranking is now open. New this year for the peer-to-peer survey is ability for providers to nominate nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The magazine is also requesting nominations for their second annual community service award.

CMS "2 midnight" rule definitions

CMS is trying to be very deliberate and force the provider to provide a comprehensive treatment plan that demonstrates the need for inpatient care greater than two (2) midnights. We will be investigating options to ensure that there is a streamlined process for centralizing this critical information in the health record.

Overview: One Call Patient Transfer Center

Currently the MultiCare Patient Transfer Center has handled over 400 transfers and direct admits per month across our system. Since opening in March, monthly volume has increased 17 percent. We have been able to reduce denied admissions due to capacity, as well as provide patients and providers with an improved experience.

Reminders on CMS physician signature requirements

As a reminder to all MultiCare physicians, nurses and office staff, CMS requires that services provided or ordered must be authenticated by a handwritten or electronic signature by the authoring physician. With few exceptions, stamped or otherwise replicated signatures are not acceptable for medical review purposes.
