Diagnosis-based Preference Lists will be eliminated on April 23

As part of the ICD-10 implementation in April 2014, diagnosis based preference lists will be going away. It was determined that with the vast number of codes associated with ICD-10, it would be nearly impossible to create and maintain accurate, user-friendly diagnosis based preference lists.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) update

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory illness that was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. Since then, it has been monitored and an increase in incidence has occurred in the Middle East. There are now also two reported deaths in the United Kingdom and one in France and the characteristics of a hospital outbreak in Saudi Arabia are fully described in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Overview: One Call Patient Transfer Center

Currently the MultiCare Patient Transfer Center has handled over 400 transfers and direct admits per month across our system. Since opening in March, monthly volume has increased 17 percent. We have been able to reduce denied admissions due to capacity, as well as provide patients and providers with an improved experience.

Reminders on CMS physician signature requirements

As a reminder to all MultiCare physicians, nurses and office staff, CMS requires that services provided or ordered must be authenticated by a handwritten or electronic signature by the authoring physician. With few exceptions, stamped or otherwise replicated signatures are not acceptable for medical review purposes.
