As a way to honor and pay their respects to the Boston Marathon, runners around the world will place their hand over their heart when they cross the finish line in upcoming races.
Word has spread on Twitter with the tag #handsoverhearts, started by runners in England ahead of this Sunday's London Marathon. The simple tribute demonstrates the compassion and camaraderie shared among runners around the globe.
"As a gesture of support for the Boston Marathon, we are reaching out to our local community and asking runners to place their hand over their heart when crossing the finish line in upcoming races," said Danette Felt, race manager of Sound To Narrows June 8 in Tacoma. "This simple yet meaningful act is a statement of solidarity with runners from around the world."
