MultiCare Health System’s Claire Spain-Remy, MD, was honored at the Women of Color Empowered luncheon for Women Leaders in Health Care today in Seattle.

Dr. Spain-Remy, an obstetrician and gynecologist, is Senior Vice President of MultiCare Medical Associates, which oversees more than 550 providers employed by MultiCare.

“She is a true servant leader – one who focuses on serving others and the greater good,” wrote Dr. Christopher Kodama, Medical Vice President of Inpatient Clinical Operations at MultiCare, who nominated Dr. Spain-Remy. “She listens, provides advice based on her knowledge and experience, and supports the efforts of others by eliminating barriers – or just by saying a kind word.”

Dr. Spain-Remy works with all employed providers and their practice staff and management at MultiCare to ensure patients receive coordinated care throughout the network of hospitals, clinics and community-based services in the South Sound.

“Dr. Spain-Remy’s success empowering others begins with extraordinary strength of character,” Dr. Kodama wrote. “Her integrity and commitment to promoting excellence are unwavering, yet she is always kind, empathetic and respectful.”

The newspaper Northwest Asian Weekly highlighted the 14 honorees in a Feb. 6 story titled, “Women are vital to the Puget Sound area’s outstanding health care services.”

“Seattle and its surrounding areas are nationally and internationally renowned for top-caliber health care institutions and facilities,” wrote reporter Signe Predmore. “The Women of Color Empowered luncheon celebrates the many significant contributions of women in the area to the medical field.”

The award is sponsored by the Puget Sound Blood Center, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Washington Dental Service Foundation.

Dr. Spain-Remy has served in several medical leadership roles. Before her current position, she was the Medical Vice President for Specialty Care for four years at MultiCare Medical Associates, where she oversaw adult specialty physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

“She has an innate ability to support and nurture people as she helps them become the best possible version of themselves,” Dr. Kodama wrote. “This is true with her patients, family and employees. It is rare to find someone who excels as a standard bearer who will also invite a colleague over for dinner on their darkest day. She is exactly this type of person and inspires others to behave similarly within their own sphere of influence.”
