Gilda's Club Seattle to bring cancer support activities to Tacoma
The program, called Gilda’s on the Go, begins June 1 and will bring many of the activities and events offered by Gilda’s Club Seattle to MultiCare Regional Cancer Center’s Tacoma General Hospital location.
To celebrate the partnership, a community open house will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 at MultiCare Regional Cancer Center in Tacoma, 1003 S. Fifth St.
“It’s a good marriage,” said Cathy Barta, who has received treatments for the past year at the MultiCare Regional Cancer Center. “Gilda’s Club and MultiCare are doing this together, and they’re doing it for us. It’s exciting. This is what I’ve wanted – the exercise classes in the evening, the lectures, the support groups. And I don’t have to travel to Seattle. It’s in Tacoma, where I live. God has answered my prayers.”
This collaboration will offer a comprehensive program of emotional support, education, and healthy lifestyle opportunities. All activities are free to participants and are open to all members of our community who are affected by cancer, not only patients of MultiCare Regional Cancer Center.
“Gilda’s Club has been long recognized as the gold standard when it comes to providing a wide variety of supportive services for anyone whose life is touched by cancer,” said David Nicewonger, Administrator of the MultiCare Regional Cancer Center. “For those able to drive to Seattle, the Gilda’s Club clubhouse has been a valuable source of caring support and education. Keeping with MultiCare Regional Cancer Center’s vision of providing cancer care close to home, and that no one should go through cancer alone, we are excited to partner with Gilda’s Club to bring these programs into our community so that more people can benefit from the time-proven and highly popular classes, support groups, and programs that they offer.”
Anna Gottlieb, Executive Director and Founder of Gilda’s Club Seattle, said that, “We are thrilled to be partnering with MultiCare to bring a variety of cancer resources to Tacoma and the South Sound. We know from 10 years of providing support that people appreciate the consistency and stability that our program brings. No matter where they happen to be in their cancer experience, they and their family members will find something in Gilda’s on the Go that meets their current support needs. MultiCare cares deeply about their patients and their community. We are proud to be part of the family.”

About Gilda's Club Seattle
Gilda's Club Seattle offers a broad, community-based program of social, emotional, and educational support for cancer survivors, their loved ones and friends that provides sustained support, education and resources on-site in the Seattle Clubhouse and off-site with collaborating partners. Free of charge to participants, and nonprofit, Gilda’s Club Seattle offers a Five Core Component program that includes a variety of support services, educational opportunities, classes and workshops, social events, and resources and referral. The program serves anyone touched by cancer across the cancer continuum -- from diagnosis, through treatment and post-treatment, survivorship, and bereavement, including children, teens, and whole families.
Gilda's Club is named in honor of Gilda Radner , who, when describing the emotional and social support she received when she had cancer, called for such places of participation, education, hope and friendship to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere. The New York flagship facility, with its International Training Center, opened in June of 1995.
