MultiCare among 'Most Wired' health care systemsMost Wired health care organizations for the fifth year in a row, according to a survey released in the current issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.MultiCare Health System is one of the nation’s
The Tacoma-based, not-for-profit MultiCare is one of the few health systems in the nation to have a complete electronic health record system.
MultiCare has been at the forefront of this technology with implementation of the electronic health record MultiCare Connect in 1998. MultiCare outpatient clinics and hospitals are linked to the electronic health record. Four MultiCare hospitals have MultiCare Connect. They include: MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, MultiCare Mary Bridge Children's Hospital and MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma, and MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. MultiCare Auburn Medical Center will add the electronic health record this fall.
“MultiCare’s electronic health record is a key component in providing the best and most efficient patient care for the communities we serve,” said Florence Chang, Executive Vice President at MultiCare Health System. “We are proud of the work we have done during the last decade to create a complete electronic health record for our patients.”
The survey looked at the achievement in clinical quality and safety, in the continuum of care and in technology infrastructure, as well as in business and administrative management.
The 289 Most Wired organizations are hospitals and health systems that scored the highest on a recent national survey of more than 1,713 hospitals and health systems. Madigan Army Medical Center was the only other hospital in Pierce County to earn the distinction.
“This year’s Most Wired organizations exemplify progress through innovation,” said AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock. “The hospital field can learn from these outstanding organizations ways that IT can help to improve efficiency.”
MultiCare Connect includes physician order entry, inpatient and outpatient area access, electronic imaging, patient access to records, bedside barcoding and other features that ensure patients get the safest and best care possible. MultiCare patients can view their health record, lab and test results, schedule an appointment or refill prescriptions using a secure patient portal called MyChart (Powered by MultiCare) at home or anywhere they have internet access.
