Interview Process

How many interviews do you offer?

Tacoma Family Medicine will interview approximately 100 applicants for its eight available first-year positions.

When does Tacoma Family Medicine offer interviews?

The interviews take place on Tuesdays, November through January.

The University of Washington’s Network of Family Practice Residency Programs has worked to develop an interview schedule that will allow you to see as many programs as possible in one trip to the Seattle/Tacoma area.

As the season progresses and available interview appointments become filled, it is not always possible to accommodate requests to coordinate the interview trip and assure that applicants will be able to see all of their desired programs. It is therefore to your advantage to complete your ERAS application in a timely manner and submit it as early as possible. Our faculty will strive to review qualified applications at the earliest possible opportunity, and Lynn Quanrud will contact you as soon as a decision regarding a personal interview has been made.

Interview dates for 2014 - 2015 will be held on Tuesdays and occasional Fridays:

Are there any activities planned the evening prior to the interview day?

There is usually an informal dinner, hosted by one of the residents in their home, on the Monday evening prior to the interview day. These dinners provide a relaxed atmosphere in which applicants and residents can get to know one another and share information about the program prior to the formal interview.

What should I expect on interview day?

The interview day will begin at 8:00 AM with light refreshments in the Residency classroom. One-on-one interviews with residents and faculty will begin at 9:45 AM followed by a tour of our clinic and the hospital. A luncheon with residents and faculty will begin at 12:30 PM.

Who should I contact if I still have questions?

Please direct questions concerning the interview process to Lynn Quanrud, Residency Coordinator at 253-403-2938. It is not uncommon to reach voice-mail during this busy time of year. Please leave a detailed message along with your telephone number, and Lynn will return your call as soon as possible. You can also email Lynn Quanrud with any questions you might have.
