The MultiCare Transfusion-Free Medical and Surgical Program is a bloodless approach to care for patients who want to avoid the use of donor blood. Our goal is to provide quality, effective health care while respecting the values, dignity and beliefs of all persons.
Patients may be interested in transfusion-free medicine and surgery for many reasons, including religious beliefs or a preference of not using donor blood due to the risk of blood-borne illnesses.
If a patient chooses the transfusion-free program, then he or she can depend on the commitment of the hospital staff to provide care while always respecting the patient's informed decision to not use blood products. We employ scientifically sound practices to minimize blood loss, and we continually educate our medical and surgical staff on developments in bloodless medicine.
