Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Network had a momentous year in 2018, from start to finish.

New Partnerships

In January 2018, strategic partnerships with Woodcreek Pediatrics and ABC Pediatrics that were initially announced in 2017 were finalized, allowing Mary Bridge Children’s to more than double its primary care services, adding 35 pediatric providers and four locations across East Pierce County and Olympia.

Being part of the larger Mary Bridge Children’s network allows Woodcreek Pediatrics and ABC Pediatrics to coordinate hospital and specialty care more effectively while providing more treatment options than they could as independent practices.

New Leadership

Jeff Poltawsky joined Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Network as President & Market Leader in July, after serving as President of American Family Children’s Hospital and Senior Vice President of UW Health, Wisconsin, for a decade. Under his leadership, American Family Children’s Hospital grew into a nationally ranked, full-service pediatric hospital that claims a competitive market share in Madison, Wisconsin, and beyond. Previously, Jeff served as Administrator at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis and Director and Vice President at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He began his career at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

One of the Best Children’s Hospitals in the Nation

Mary Bridge Children’s crowning achievement for 2018 came in December, as it was one of only 13 children’s hospitals across the country awarded ‘Top Hospital’ status by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.

Achieved by less than six percent of eligible hospitals nationwide, the Top Children’s Hospital award for 2018 is tied to achievements in patient safety and quality. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, care management, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. This award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive, and is a testament to the dedication Mary Bridge Children’s has to delivering superior care to the children and families in our community.
