Since June 2020, our country and our organization have engaged in deep conversations about long-standing racism, injustice, discrimination and violence in our communities.
These conversations, underscored by demonstrations across the Pacific Northwest, reinforced our commitment to addressing inequities in our communities and in our own organization,and led to the development of our evolving Belonging Program.
Key elements to the Belonging Program include:
Listening sessions: We gathered feedback from employees via email and during listening sessions held in late June 2020 to understand their experiences and solicit ideas from employees on the areas they believe are most important for MultiCare to address. There will be further opportunities to gather feedback from employees and the community in the future.
Advisory Council: MultiCare created an internal Advisory Council that represents the diversity of the organization and the communities it serves. This group of over 20 employees from across the organization were chosen in August 2020 and will advise MultiCare’s Belonging Leadership Group: Bill Robertson, President and CEO; Florence Chang, COO; and Kevin B. Dull, CHPO, as the Belonging Program continues to grow and evolve.
Resource materials: MultiCare is creating a central location on the organization’s website and employee intranet with resources and information for both employees and the community.
Employee education: Diversity and inclusion training for employees will be expanded and augmented to better address topics raised during our listening sessions.
Mission resource groups: MultiCare will develop employee resource groups (affinity groups) by interest groups/identities to offer a more inclusive space for employees that contributes to the mission/vision of MultiCare.
Policy and guideline review: The organization will adopt an "Equity in All Policies" approach and apply an equity lens to policy and guidelines related to development and hiring practices.
MultiCare has also developed a Philosophy and Guiding Principles to help guide us on our Belonging Journey

We are all on this Belonging Journey together, and we know that there will be many opportunities for our organization to learn and grow.
