A message from Stephen Reville, MD, FAAP, Physician Executive for Network Development at Mary Bridge Children's and a representative on the WCAAP board of trustees:

How do we make Population Health relevant to our pediatric practices?  I'll admit that when I hear discussions about population health they tend to be overwhelmingly focused on management of adult complications of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity.  Precious few words are spent on true prevention opportunities, most of which stem from circumstances set in motion during the pediatric years.

We, as pediatricians, need to have a different approach in order to achieve a healthier population.  On January 21, 2017 we will host a forum in Tacoma to bring the conversation about Population Health into our clinical domain.  This CME event will promote practical strategies for:

  • Tackling daunting issues such as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Social Determinants of Health (SDHs);
  • Successful models for actually integrating behavioral health into a busy practice;
  • Involving community resources to assist us in health promotion and disease management;
  • Leveraging data and systems to make care management realistic.

Friday  evening:
View thought-provoking film “Paper Tigers” which asks what it means to be a trauma-informed school and how to educate teens emerging from childhoods that left them with brains and bodies ill-suited to learn.   Panel discussion to follow film.

Saturday:
Learn innovative, practical approaches to improve pediatric population health in your clinic.
