COVID-19 Weekly Update: 3rd Week April 2020

Here is the update from the System Incident Coordination Center

April 18, 2020

GENERAL UPDATES

PIO communications shifting to weekly basis. We will now share weekly employee communications on Thursday morning instead of a daily cadence. Please continue to use Point MultiCare as your primary resource for up-to-date policies and the latest information.

MultiCare’s numbers now reported on Point MultiCare only. Our system COVID-19-related numbers will no longer be included in our weekly communication. Instead, they will be updated on a weekly basis on this page. You will find them below under “System Cases.”

Coronavirus inbox closing. Effective today, we will be closing the [email protected] inbox since the volume has dropped significantly. Please continue to direct questions to your managers and leaders, and check Point MultiCare for ongoing resources and the latest guidance.

CLINICAL & POLICY CHANGES

Cloth mask guidance. MultiCare staff based in a clinical building (hospitals, clinics, Indigo, UCC) should not wear homemade cloth masks as primary mask or over MultiCare-provided respiratory protection (face masks or N95s): Cloth Mask Guidance for MultiCare Staff 4.17.2020

In-person interpreters and PPE. If a patient needs an in-person interpreter, please provide the interpreter with the level of PPE required to care for the patient. The latest guidelines are posted on Point MultiCare for your reference.

Rejected COVID-19 specimens. A contributing cause of leaking specimens has been identified. If the plastic tube is not trimmed so the swab fully fits within the media container (without bending or pushing against the lid), then the lid cannot be securely tightened to prevent leakage. Leaking specimens are automatically rejected.

ONGOING UPDATES FOR YOUR REFERENCE

Visitor policy. Visitor restrictions are in effect system wide and can be found on the main information page or at multicare.org.

Employee screening guidance. The more comprehensive guidance includes details on employee attestation and additional health screening information, as well as symptomatic and exposed staff guidance, and is posted on Point MultiCare.

Thank you for all that everyone is doing across the system to support our patients, community and fellow employees during this time.
