According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 1 in 20 Americans over the age of 20 are morbidly obese, increasing their risk of developing other health conditions like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. MultiCare Deaconess Hospital’s bariatric weight loss program, based in Spokane, is designed to help people improve their health and quality of life by using surgical intervention for weight reduction.
Although bariatric surgery has shown to be an effective tool in weight loss, it’s important for patients to remember that the surgery is only one part of the process. A successful outcome is dependent on the patient’s commitment to long-term lifestyle change. Our accredited program uses a multidisciplinary approach, including visits with a registered dietitian, advance registered nurse practitioner and psychologist to help patients in the Inland Northwest achieve their long-term health and weight loss goals.
MultiCare Rockwood Clinic and Deaconess surgical care teams together are nationally accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Along with streamlined clinical pathways, protocols and outcomes data, MBSAQIP designated programs require patients to receive pre-surgery education, nutrition guidance, counseling and other health services necessary for maintaining successful lifestyle changes. As a partner program, the Deaconess Hospital and MultiCare Rockwood Clinic team provides a full range of follow-up care and support groups for patients who undergo weight loss surgery.
