Wound Care

Specialized Treatment for Wounds

Chronic, non-healing wounds, those that haven’t shown signs of improvement in several weeks or are not responding to typical treatments, need extra help to heal. Difficult wounds of this type are often caused by injury, disease or poor blood supply. MultiCare Deaconess Hospital provides specialized treatment for these types of wounds.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment using 100 percent oxygen saturation to promote the body’s healing responses. When patients breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized setting, wounds renew tissue and heal more rapidly. Increased oxygen therapy is extremely safe and produces no long-term side effects. Hyperbaric therapy is approved by the American Medical Association and the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of many conditions including:

  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Diabetic foot ulcer
  • Soft tissue radiation necrosis
  • Osteo radionecrosis
  • Decompression sickness
  • Traumatic ischemic injury
  • Central retinal artery occlusion
  • Idiopathic sensory neural hearing loss
