The Bariatric Surgery team at MultiCare Deaconess Hospital includes board-certified surgeons, bariatric-certified advanced registered nurse practitioners, experienced dietitians, nurses and physician assistants.

Bariatric Surgeons

The surgeons of MultiCare Rockwood Bariatric Weight-Loss Surgery Center who perform bariatric surgeries at MultiCare Deaconess Hospital are specifically trained to meet the needs of the surgical weight loss patient. Andrew Bright, MD; Mathew Rawlins, MD; and Jonathan Spitz, MD, are board certified and are active members of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. With more than 2,000 bariatric procedures to date, they are committed to providing you with the best option for obesity today.

Andrew Bright
Andrew Bright, MD, FACS
Dr. Bright received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He completed his residency and internship in general surgery at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Dr. Bright belongs to the American Board of Surgery, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Bright joined MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in 1998.
Mathew Rawlins
Mathew Rawlins, MD, FACS
Dr. Rawlins received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed his residency in general surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and belongs to the American Board of Surgery, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Rawlins joined MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in 2002.
Jonathan Spitz
Jonathan D. Spitz, MD, FACS
Dr. Spitz received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, and his medical degree from the Medical Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. Dr. Spitz completed his surgical training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He then completed specialty fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery/endoscopy at St. Vincent Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Spitz belongs to the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Spitz joined Rockwood Clinic in 2008.
