Course Description:

This course will explore what outcomes measures are available for pediatric therapists and why a therapist might choose one outcome measure over another. Participants will explore objective outcome measures of Activity and Participation and learn to select/develop appropriate measures to document progress of their pediatric clients. Participants will also practice administering single activity outcome measures and developing objective measures of functional activity for hard-to-measure populations/behaviors

Course objectives:

  • Using ICF model as reference, identify objective outcomes for various levels.
  • Identify why we need objective measurable outcomes in todays's world.
  • Gain knowledge about choosing appropriate outcome measures that address the needs of all stakeholders
  • Become familiar with standardized single activity level measures appropriate to pediatric clients based on their characteristics
  • Develop ability to write objective, measurable goals based on “how long, how much, how often”.

Intended Audience:

Pediatric Physical therapists and  occupational therapists

Presenters:

Sara Kerrick, PT, PCS, C/NDT is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy in Puyallup, Washington. A graduate from Northern Arizona University PT program, Sara has more than 34 years of pediatric experience. NDT-trained, Sara has a master’s degree in rehabilitation medicine with an emphasis on pediatric physical therapy from the University of Washington.

Juanita Nirider PT, MS, C/NDT is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy in Puyallup, WA. She has practiced in pediatrics for 37 years. She graduated from University of Kansas and UNC-Chapel Hill.

Sara and Juanita are among the founding members of the MBCT Outcomes Measure Group (OMG!). They have spent the last few years exploring which outcomes measures apply best to their clients as well as making the administration of outcome measures practical in the clinic.
