This is an introductory course for health care and education providers. The course will introduce attendees to the principles of Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) as it relates to the treatment of the child with a neuromuscular disorder for improved control of the trunk, lower extremities and upper extremities with the goal of increasing their independence and function. This course will include both lecture and hands on experience. Please dress comfortably as a large portion of this course will be devoted to hands on treatment labs. Previous courses in NDT are not required.
Participants will gain knowledge of contemporary theories for neurodevelopmental treatment as related to motor development, motor control and motor learning.
Participants will gain an understanding of the components of typical developmental for head and trunk control and gain skills for facilitation of movement through the trunk to improve function.
Participants will learn the preparatory components of lower extremity movement, related to the acquisition of standing and ambulation, and obtain ideas for facilitating more efficient standing posture and ambulation leading to increased function.
Participants will gain an understanding of the components of normal development, related to skilled movement of the upper extremities, and have an opportunity to practice facilitating movement leading to increased functional use of the upper extremities.

Brett Nirider, PT, Brett Nirider, PT, is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Puyallup with more than 39 years of pediatric experience. He has had training and experience in both NDT and sensory integration, and has taught the eight-week pediatric NDT course, as well as assisted with the NDT baby treatment course. He particularly enjoys instructing therapists who have limited experience or exposure to NDT.
Sara Kerrick, PT, Sara Kerrick, PT, is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Puyallup with more than 36 years of pediatric experience. NDT-trained, Sara has a master’s degree in rehabilitation medicine with an emphasis on pediatric physical therapy from the University of Washington. She has a special interest in cognitive functioning and the impact on mobility as well as exploring use of outcomes to guide Clinical Practice
