The MultiCare Institute for Research and Innovation’s annual Research Day celebrates research efforts across MultiCare that benefit our community and beyond. This event highlights the diversity of our studies and the research investigators who are dedicated to advancing patient care options for all.
This award is given to an individual or a research team whose efforts best exemplify and further the vision and mission of MultiCare and MIRI. The award recognizes exceptional leadership and research discovery in medicine and science on the local, national and international levels.
This year’s award went to a team of MultiCare physicians and registered nurses who coordinated trials of convalescent plasma and the experimental drug remdesivir. As a result of their efforts, critically ill patients in MultiCare hospitals in the Puget Sound and Inland Northwest regions had access to potentially lifesaving treatments.
This award is given to an outstanding research investigator for their body of work, impact on patient care and research leadership. This award takes into consideration the high level of commitment and work required in community-based research.
Dr. Malhotra was honored with 2020’s Outstanding Research Investigator of the Year for his efforts to spearhead local trials of remdesivir, an experimental drug used to treat COVID-19.
