Weight changes, sun exposure, the pull of gravity and personal habits can all play a role in the aging process, and may accelerate the appearance of wrinkles. Luckily, facial plastic surgery can help reverse the effects of aging and give you a natural, youthful appearance.
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that focuses on lifting the upper, mid or lower portions of the face and neck. Choosing to lift these areas can provide several benefits, resulting in a younger-looking appearance.
Facelifts can help improve:
While facelifts are the most common plastic surgery procedure, each one is unique. The procedure is done under general anesthesia, or with a combination of local anesthesia and a mild sedative. A rhytidectomy is typically not very painful, and patients return home the day of surgery with pain medication to manage any discomfort.
After your facelift, activity should be limited for the first 24 hours. One to two days after the procedure, you will be seen for a post-operative visit in which the dressing will be removed. A second visit will be scheduled about a week after surgery to remove sutures and staples. For most patients, swelling and bruising clears up within a month.
To determine whether or not rhytidectomy is the right procedure for you, schedule a consultation with one of MultiCare Plastic Reconstructive Surgery’s board-certified plastic surgeons. During your visit, your doctor will speak with you about the goals you have for your appearance.
Before making recommendations, your plastic surgeon will also perform a face and neck exam to assess skin type, skin laxity and bone structure. Bring a list of medications, supplements and vitamins you take, and have a list prepared of the questions or concerns you may have. Being open with our specialists is key to a safe and successful facelift.
*A $75 consultation fee will be charged and applied towards the total cost of surgery if the procedure is elected.
