What to Expect

What to Expect During Your Hip Preservation Evaluation

During an initial visit, you’ll have an in-depth discussion with Linnea Welton, MD, our hip preservation specialist, about your hip pain, what treatments you have tried and how well they have worked. She will then perform a thorough physical exam of your hips, pelvis and lower spine, taking a look at:

  • Gait (the way you walk)
  • Neurologic function (your reflexes, for example)
  • Range of motion
  • Muscle strength

After a detailed health history and the physical exam, she will perform imaging tests, such as x-rays, to form a diagnosis and determine if you are a good candidate for hip preservation.

A benefit of MultiCare’s Hip Preservation Program is that you won’t need to see multiple doctors to find relief. Dr. Welton performs complex hip arthroscopy and realignment procedures involving the pelvis and femur.

Each patient is unique, so treatment plans are customized to fit individual needs. Our goal is to collaborate with you to create a long-term, effective approach that alleviates your hip pain and gets you back to active living.
