Learning Our Patients' Stories, Bringing Wishes to Life

We all have had dreams — places we want to travel, people we want to meet, experiences we wish to have. Some of them we will accomplish, and some seem like they will remain a dream forever.

As we approach the end of our life, those unfulfiled dreams can take on new importance. In many cases, the grand plans we once had give way to smaller, yet more deeply meaningful, desires: To marry your love. To see the ocean one last time. To sit in a stadium and see your favorite team play.

At MultiCare Home Health & Hospice, we believe that hospice care is about more than simply easing physical pain. It is about listening to our patients, letting them share their stories. And, when we can, helping them realize their one last dream.

Our Dream Catcher Program is a cooperative effort between our hospice staff and various members of the community to make the last wishes of our hospice patients come true. Some of the dreams — both large and small — we have helped our patients realize include:

  • Getting married on Crystal Mountain
  • A trip to the Japanese Gardens in Point Defiance
  • Attending a Seahawks game
  • A trip to the ocean
  • Visiting a brother not seen in 10 years
  • Getting graduation pictures
  • Drinking buttermilk

Our thanks go to the East Pierce Fire Department, Sentimental Journey and other members of the community who have helped our staff make some of these dreams possible for our patients.
