More Information About Vascular Ultrasound

An ultrasound image is a useful way of evaluating the body's circulatory system. Ultrasound images are captured in real time, so they can help radiologists monitor the blood flow to organs and tissues throughout the body, as well as evaluate the placement and success of repairs, such as following arterial bypass surgery. These exams are sometimes called Doppler ultrasound procedures.

Where is Vascular Ultrasound Available?
MultiCare Medical Imaging offers vascular ultrasound imaging at Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, Allenmore Hospital, MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, MultiCare Covington Clinic, MultiCare Kent Clinic, MultiCare Vascular Services - Auburn, MultiCare Vascular Services - Puyallup, and MultiCare Vascular Services - Tacoma. Mary Bridge Children's Hospital is the only place in Tacoma to specialize in Pediatric Vascular Ultrasound.
How Should I Prepare for My Vascular Ultrasound?
Please arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment to complete paperwork.

For your safety and the safety of your children, please make arrangements for someone to care for your children during your scheduled appointment time. If you are unable to find care for them, please call and reschedule your appointment.

You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your exam. You may be asked to remove clothing and jewelry in the area that is being examined. Or, you may be asked to wear a gown during the procedure.

Please follow and preparation instructions given when scheduling your appointment.

How Long Will My Exam Take?
Vascular ultrasound procedures take from 30-90 minutes. More specialized and detailed studies may take 90-120 minutes (i.e. varicose veins, full arterial imaging, etc.).
Getting Your Results
Studies performed at Good Samaritan, Tacoma General, Allenmore Hospitals or at the MultiCare Vascular Services offices in Tacoma, Puyallup and Auburn are interpreted by Vascular Surgeons. Otherwise, a radiologist will perform interpretations for studies in Covington, Kent and the Pediatric Vascular studies done at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. In either case, a report goes to the referring provider, which is the appropriate person to call if you have any questions about your results.
