Our providers offer outpatient psychotherapy to patients and families who have psychological challenges related to a medical condition. Typical referral concerns include adjustment to illness, non-adherence to medical treatment protocol, anxieties related to procedures and suspected psychological factors affecting an illness. Treatment modalities include cognitive-behavioral, solution focused and behavioral family therapy.
In some cases your child’s specialist or provider may request that your child have neuropsychological testing. A neuropsychologist is a psychologist with specialty training in the assessment of cognitive skills. Neuropsychologists utilize pencil and paper tests to assess a child’s skills in multiple areas of functioning including intelligence, memory, language, visual perceptual skills, sensory processing, motor abilities, emotional functioning, problem solving, organization and planning. Assessments typically occur over several sessions for one to three hours per visit, depending on the child’s age and ability. Following the course of an assessment, the neuropsychologist will provide face-to-face feedback, as well as a written report.
