Award recognizes MultiCare for reducing C-Section infections
MultiCare Health System was recognized today for innovation in reducing infection in patients who had a C-Section at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital and MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital.
The Tacoma-based not-for-profit health system implemented a group of procedures in 2007 that make the surgery safer for moms at MultiCare’s Pierce County hospitals and reduced infection by 96 percent. The procedures include wound-care education, enhanced dressing to promote healing and improved pre-operative cleaning processes.
Qualis Health, one of the nation’s leading health care consulting and care management organizations, presented the Washington State Awards of Excellence in Healthcare Quality today during the Northwest Patient Safety Conference in SeaTac. The awards were presented to five health care organizations, recognizing their achievements in improving health care quality and outcomes in 2011.
“Across the country, Americans are focusing more than ever on efforts to improve health care quality and value. By recognizing today’s awardees, we honor organizations in Washington State that demonstrate their commitment to transforming health care delivery for their patients, families and communities,” said Jonathan Sugarman, MD, MPH, President and CEO of Qualis Health. “The work being done here in our state shows that simultaneously improving care and lowering cost can be achieved.”
