CEO Message: Dallas

Dallas sunset
Dallas, Texas, at sunset.

Words seem powerless in the face of the news from Dallas. Last night, a sniper or snipers methodically shot and killed five police officers and wounded seven more who were providing protection for a peaceful protest march. The sniper(s) also wounded two civilians.

Nothing can be said that can reverse the impact of these shootings. Our thoughts go immediately to those personally impacted by this terrible tragedy — and to the city of Dallas as it struggles to respond. There is no simple way for us to convey the respect we have for those in law enforcement who risk so much for us each day and yet are so vulnerable to senseless acts like this.

While much is still unknown about this tragedy, this we do know: Nothing is accomplished by allowing the hurt to turn to hatred. We have a great obligation to our children and our fellow citizens to stand against the forces of fear. The greatest symbol of our unity is how we how live in the face of uncertainty.
