MultiCare begins construction on expanded Covington Medical Center
Construction began in late September on an expanded MultiCare Covington Medical Center that will provide inpatient hospital services to Covington and the surrounding communities.
The three-level, 74,000-square-foot wing will face Wax Road and be adjacent to the recently built emergency department.
The first phase will include 24 inpatient beds, Observation Units, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, Ear, Nose and Throat services, Urology, Adult Short Stay Surgery, Pediatric Inpatient care and Pediatric Outpatient Surgery, and other services.
Pediatric services will be connected to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Center and its network of primary and specialty services in Covington and South King County.
This addition will improve access to community health care services and is expected to generate about 100 new jobs when completed in late 2016. In addition, it will create more than 250 construction jobs.
“The new Covington Medical Center is a real testament to MultiCare’s commitment to bring expanded health care to the communities we serve,” said Hugh Kodama, MultiCare President and Market Leader for the South King Region.
“Many more residents will be able to get their health needs taken care of right here in South King County, while still being connected to MultiCare’s network of specialists in King and Pierce counties.”
MultiCare Covington Medical Center has been serving the Southeast King County area for more than two decades.
The Covington Medical Center will further develop and complement the integrated services MultiCare offers in South King County through Auburn Medical Center and its primary care, urgent care and specialty clinics.
