For 11th year, MultiCare Health System one of top 100 Integrated Health Systems
Becker's Hospital Review has named Tacoma-based not-for-profit MultiCare Health System one of the "100 Integrated Health Systems To Know."
This is the 11th consecutive year MultiCare has ranked in the Top 100 in the list of the most efficient and integrated networks.
Last year, MultiCare was the top-ranked health care system in Washington state, coming in at No. 10 on the national list of top 100 integrated health care systems -- the fifth consecutive year that MultiCare has ranked among the top 10 in the United States.
This year's list didn't include individual rankings for each health system. Becker's said the list is based on health systems' range and coordination of health care services. Becker's said the editorial team selected health systems based on rankings by health care analytics company IMS Health, as well as health systems' clinical and operational strength.
Becker's highlighted MultiCare with this entry:
MultiCare Health System (Tacoma, Wash.). MultiCare Health System includes five hospitals, as well as numerous outpatient specialty centers, primary and urgent care clinics and other services and community outreach programs. In addition to health services, MultiCare offers revenue cycle assessment, strategy and optimization assistance for health care providers through MultiCare Consulting Services. The system connects inpatient and outpatient physicians with patients' medical records through MultiCare Connect, an electronic health record system. Patients can contact providers and schedule appointments via the online service MyChart.
Last year's Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks list, also compiled by IMS Health, ranked health care networks based on each system's performance and degree of integration in eight categories. MultiCare received perfect scores in Services & Access, Outpatient Utilization, Integration, and Integrated Technology.
In that list, MultiCare ranked No. 3 among all of the health care networks in the entire 12-state West Region. MultiCare debuted at 81st on the list in 2003 and continued to move up. In 2008, MultiCare jumped from 56th to eighth on the list.
MultiCare is one of the few health systems in the nation to have an advanced electronic health record system. MultiCare outpatient clinics and hospitals are linked to the electronic health record called MultiCare Connect, which includes the secure patient portal called MyChart.
