Over 1,200 people begin Pierce County Matchup weight-loss contest
Only in a weight-loss contest will you find teams proudly named "The Fat and the Furious," "The Not-So-Thin Blue Line," "No More Man Boobs" and "The Hunger Games."
More than 1,200 people (including 238 MultiCare employees) have already joined Pierce County Matchup, a community competition to lose weight with a little help from your friends. Registration is open through March 30 (details and frequently asked questions here).
So far, some of the best team names include:
- 4 Ho-Ho's and a Ding-Dong
- Drop It Like It's Hot
- Hugh and the Heifers
- No More Man Boobs
- Not-So-Thin Blue Line
- Serious Weapons of Mass Reduction
- Team Chubby Huggs
- The Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Club
- The Fat and the Furious
- The Hunger Games
On Wednesday in the cafe at Tacoma General Hospital, participants had their height and weight measurements officially recorded. More weigh-ins will continue through the end of the month.
"Just a bunch of us girls are doing it as a challenge," said Shawn Hoff, a Medical Assistant at Mary Bridge Children's Health Center. "In health care, you can't preach what you don't practice."
Jon Slaughter and Charlie Mathews, from the IT department at Gordon Thomas Honeywell, formed a team named "Whole Lotta Love (Handles)." In past weight-loss attempts, they'd place $20 bets with each other, only to end up buying doughnuts in an attempt to foil the other guy.
This time, they'll be helping each other with a little positive peer pressure. They don't want to let down their teammates.
"To me, it's like being in school," Mathews said. "I always tried harder on the group projects."
