Critically ill newborns from across Washington rely on the advanced services of our state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU.) Neonatologists who specialize in caring for premature and sick babies are on-site 24/7. Our NICU practitioners also partner with a comprehensive range of medical and surgical subspecialists from nearby Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital to oversee every aspect of your child’s complex care needs to ensure the best possible outcome.
To give them faster access to our high level of care, Tacoma General has established a unique transport service. Serving as a mobile neonatal intensive care unit, these transport teams consist of specially trained NICU registered nurses and respiratory therapists.
In addition to our award-winning ground transport service, Tacoma General’s new partnership with Airlift Northwest, a UW Medicine subsidiary, means the Neonatal Transport Team can more quickly reach at-risk newborns in areas stretching to the state’s eastern and western borders.
Enhancing our transport capabilities across the state of Washington is part of Tacoma General’s commitment to the health and safety of newborns who need access to a complete range of medical and surgical services.
