SPOKANE, Wash. - MultiCare Deaconess Hospital announced today it was the sole Washington recipient of the 2020 Excellence in Healthcare ED (Emergency Department) –Throughput – Door to Doctor Time Award from Huron’s Studer Group.

The hospital's Emergency Department earned this recognition for its “Door to Doc” times, which is the time from when a patient arrives at the emergency department to when they are seen by a provider. The national “Door to Doc” average time is 20 minutes. From July 2019-April 2020, MultiCare Deaconess Emergency Department’s Door to Doc time averaged 15.4 minutes.

“A critical component in emergency care is time. From a stroke to a heart attack, immediate medical treatment has a significant impact on a patient’s outcome that requires teamwork and collaboration that our Emergency Department team exemplifies.” said Dr. David O’Brien, senior vice president and chief executive for MultiCare’s Inland Northwest Region. “We are proud to serve our community by providing excellent emergency care.”

Nationally, seven organizations earned this award for delivering positive outcomes related to patient experience, consumer experience or employee experience.

“We congratulate MultiCare Deaconess Hospital on this outstanding achievement,” said Debbie Ritchie, president of Huron’s Studer Group. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of their teams in achieving performance excellence and driving sustainable results for their organizations.”
