Urology Center

Treating Cancers of the Urinary System

The urologists at MultiCare Rockwood Urology are surgical specialists who focus on cancerous and non-cancerous diseases of the kidneys, urinary tract, bladder and prostate. Our urologists also treat such disorders as male infertility, male sexual dysfunction, female pelvic prolapse and incontinence, kidney stones, complex urinary tract infections, vasectomies and urologic disorders in children.

At MultiCare Rockwood Urology, we work very closely with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and radiologists to diagnose and treat cancers of the urinary system, including kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This field is called urologic oncology.

Twice a month our specialists gather in a multidisciplinary conference to discuss these sometimes challenging cases. This provides patients a more thorough and complete evaluation for their cancer. This helps ensure that all of our patients have access to the best available treatment, cutting-edge technologies and clinical trials to provide the best possible outcomes during a very challenging time in their lives.

Examples of the technologies we offer include:

  • Robotic prostatectomy, a procedure performed on the da Vinci® robotic system to provide a less invasive treatment option for prostate cancer.
  • Laparoscopic surgery, a less invasive option for treatment of some types of cancers. Laparoscopy shortens hospital stay and recovery time and offers better cosmetic outcomes with less pain after the procedure.
  • Cryotherapy, a method that is used to freeze some cancers that is less invasive than traditional surgery.

We also offer other minimally invasive procedures:

  • For male voiding dysfunction, the Greenlight Laser (PVP) is a procedure used to ablate prostate tissue for men with urinary difficulty. The procedure results in a quicker recovery period with no hospital stay compared to conventional treatments.
  • For stone disease, our urologists are experts in ureteroscopy and Shock Wave lithotripsy that offer minimally invasive and even non-invasive treatments for stones.
  • For incontinence, we offer minimally invasive procedures ranging from office procedures to minimally invasive "sling" procedures.
  • For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), we can offer rapid relief and recovery with the Urolift system.

MultiCare Rockwood Urology is committed to providing the highest level of care while remaining on the cutting edge of treatment options. Call 509-755-5121 for more information.

At MultiCare Rockwood Clinic, preventing disease is just as important and treating it. Dr. Bradford Nelson shares the importance of monthly self-exams and other measures to consider for preventing testicular cancer in the video below.
