Treatment of a Wide Range of Urologic Conditions

MultiCare Urology knows that any treatment plan we create needs to balance what is right for each patient’s condition with what is right for their lives. Our urologists have expertise in a wide range of conditions, diagnostic methods and treatments, so we can offer our patients the best options.

A majority of the different surgeries and procedures our department offers are listed below. However, please inquire if you are interested in other procedures, as not all of our services are listed.

Cancer Treatment

Prostate Cancer

  • Ultrasound guided prostate biopsy — MRI fusion technology to obtain tissue from the prostate to evaluate for cancer
  • Robotic radical prostatectomy — robotic-assisted prostate removal

Bladder Cancer

  • Diagnostic cystoscopy — visualization of the inside of the bladder to evaluate for bladder cancer Transurethral resection of bladder tumor(s) — removal of bladder cancer using a camera (no incisions)
  • Robotic cystectomy — robotic-assisted removal of the bladder

Kidney Cancer

  • Robotic partial nephrectomy — removal of a kidney tumor that spares the remaining healthy kidney
  • Robotic nephrectomy — removal of the entire kidney, often used when larger tumors are present

Testicular Cancer

  • Radical orchiectomy — removal of the testicle for a cancerous tumor
  • Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection — removal of abdominal lymph nodes as part of testicular cancer treatment
Kidney Stones
  • Percutaneous nephrolithotomy — a procedure in which a tract is created through the back into the kidney to remove large kidney stones
  • Laser lithotripsy — a laser treatment that fragments kidney stones using a minimally invasive technique
  • Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy — a treatment that uses ultrasound energy to break apart kidney stones into small, easily passable fragments
Urinary Incontinence & Other Urinary Troubles

Overactive Bladder

  • Sacral nerve modulation — a procedure that helps the brain communicate with the nerves in your tailbone (the sacrum) that control urination
  • Posterior tibial nerve stimulation — the insertion of an electrode under the skin near the ankle to stimulate the nerves that control urination Intravesical
  • Botox® injection — an injection into the bladder to block signals from the nerves to the muscles in the bladder to prevent urinary frequency

Stress Urinary Incontinence

  • Urethral slings — a band of artificial material or tissue from your own body that is used to wrap part way around the urethra, applying pressure and preventing leakage
  • Artificial urinary sphincter — a prosthetic device that replaces a damaged external sphincter, the muscle giving control over urination

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (Enlarged Prostate)

  • Transurethral resection of the prostate — a procedure in which tissue is removed from the inside of the prostate to create a wide channel for urine to pass through
  • Transurethral vaporization of the prostate — a technique that vaporizes the prostate tissue, creating a wide channel to urinate through
  • Water vapor thermal therapy (RezumTM) — a treatment in which steam is injected into the prostate to remove the tissue blocking the urethra
  • Prostatic urethral lift (UroLift®) — a system of implants that lift and hold the prostate tissue away from the urethra to create an open channel

Other

  • Urodynamic testing — an evaluation of bladder function to help diagnose the cause of bothersome urinary symptoms
Reproductive Health
  • Circumcision — surgical removal of the foreskin of the penis
  • Vasectomy — surgical procedure that stops the release of sperm, preventing reproduction
  • Penile prosthesis — a device that allows resumption of sexual activity when otherwise not able
Reconstructive & Neurological Care
  • Urinary diversion — a surgical procedure that reroutes the normal flow of urine when it would otherwise be obstructed
  • Ureteral stricture — a surgery repairing a narrow location between the kidney and bladder to restore urine flow
  • Urethral stricture — a surgery to repair a narrowing between the bladder and the urethral opening out of which urine flows
  • Urinary tract fistula surgery — surgery to correct an abnormal connection within the urinary tract or between urinary and other organs
  • Buried penis — a procedure to correct when a penis is obscured by the tissue surrounding it
