Accredited Chest Pain Center

Round the Clock Cardiac Care

MultiCare Valley Hospital's Chest Pain Center team is available round the clock and focused on caring for hearts every day of the year. We know the warning signs of a heart attack and provide patients with rapid treatment. Early intervention reduces strain on the heart and facilitates better outcomes. Our focus on heart care not only ensures we provide quality service to patients but also helps us prevent unnecessary admissions.

Heart attacks are a leading cause of death in the United States. They are are not always sudden or intense. Many heart attacks start slowly, with only mild pain or discomfort. You may not be sure what’s wrong — even if you’ve had a previous heart attack. When in doubt, check it out. Know the symptoms and don’t wait; if you think you’re having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.

Signs of a Heart Attack

  • Discomfort in the center of the chest: uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain
  • Discomfort in the upper body: pain in the arms, shoulders, back or jaw
  • Shortness of breath
  • Other signs: cold sweat, unusual fatigue, nausea or lightheadedness

American College of Cardiology Seal of Approval

Accredited by American College of Cardiology (ACC) Accreditation Services, Valley Hospital and MultiCare Deaconess Hospital are the inland Northwest’s only accredited chest pain centers. This designation — achieved by only 12 percent of all hospitals in the United States — means we have demonstrated expertise in cardiac care across a wide range of stringent criteria. Every three years, ACC Accreditation Services conducts an extensive survey to assess whether we are continuing to meet high standards in cardiac care.

What does this seal of approval mean for you? When you or a loved one arrives at the Emergency Department with symptoms of a heart attack, our team will treat you according to quality-of-care measures that have been proven to achieve better patient outcomes.

A Strategic, Collaborative Approach

The accredited chest-pain-center-model is designed to help us deliver heart care in a systematic manner. Treatment starts at the onset of heart attack symptoms and continues through cardiac rehab and discharge from the facility. Emergency medical services, the Emergency Department, physicians and the Observation Unit all work together to ensure patients receive comprehensive heart care.
